In these days, I am living in Chicago, one of the most exciting cities in the U.S, with studying English, making lots of friends, and learning a new culture. However, all of these things came close to being impossible because of my absurd mistake I did before boarding a plane to come here. So I might have returned to Korea without any experience in the U.S if there hadn't been some lucks for me!
Before I came to Chicago, I had had to stopover at San Francisco so as to spend time with my friend living in there. So it was at the airport located in San Francisco that I had to go through immigration . When I arrived at the airport in San Francisco, it was so natural that I was exhausted because I had been staying for a 13 hours at an extremely stuffy seat. In addition, I had to wait for a long time to get an admission to enter U.S. After lots of waiting in a long time, finally I got a chance to face an officer who could let me go out the airport.
But at that time, the only thing I could get is the shock caused by the fact that I couldn't go out the airport. It was because I had brought a significant paperwork for entering the U.S, which is not original but copied. So, the officer, who changed so rapidly from friendly old man to aggressive one, sent me to a strange office crowded with some people seeming frightened like me. While waiting at the office, I couldn't even imagine what I have to do, what will happen, and how long I have to be in this awful place.
After about an hour of anxiety, I could hear someone looking for me. With very quickened heartbeat, I got up and plodded to an officer who never smiled and kept frowning at me. Even though I had made some excuses and prepared what I have to tell him during the last hour, I couldn't remember it at all in front of this aggressive face. The only I could do was repeating "I...just.. forgot to bring it.. Sorry..." To my great embarrassment, I even couldn't understand what he was saying aggressively. At last, the boss of him came to the office while the officer was still putting his back up on me.
Then, I could see that they were making somewhat serious conversation concerning how they can deal with my situation. After a long conversation, the boss, who looked also scary and much more strict, went out. I was still with petrified expression because I had no idea about what was going on. I felt like time had stopped. Finally, the officer came to me and told me that the boss of him had decided to allow me to go out the airport exceptionally. And also, he added I was in unprecedented lucky situation because the boss of him was originally not the person who make exception like this.
Finally, I was able to go out such a dreadful office. Although I had felt lots of tiredness before, I forgot it in that office because of a great sense of fear. Still now, whenever I remind the experience, I can feel my heartbeat increase dramatically. After this terrible situation, I made my decision to be much more careful about my paperwork when I travel. Moreover, I could be able to review how important a caginess is. I made myself a promise never to let this kind of foolish situation happen in the future!
